Our Story
A Legacy of Faith and Community
Founded in 1927 (with some records indicating its formal organization in 1928), Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of San Diego has been a steadfast presence in the community for nearly a century. From its earliest days, the church has been rooted in a mission to serve, worship, and grow together in faith.
A Sanctuary of Enduring Beauty
At the heart of the church stands its historic sanctuary, built in the Spanish Mission style. Now approaching 100 years old, this cherished space is known for its distinctive architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows, offering a place of reflection, reverence, and spiritual connection for generations.
Decades of Service and Fellowship
For over 90 years, the congregation has faithfully provided a welcoming space for worship, learning, and fellowship. Through changing times, the church has remained a constant source of support, bringing people together in faith, service, and community life.
Leadership and Growth
Throughout its history, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church has been guided by dedicated and faithful leaders. Among them are Rev. Rodger Gredvig and Rev. Greg, whose background in financial services brought a unique perspective to his ministry. Each leader has contributed to the church’s growth, strengthening its foundation and expanding its outreach.
Modern Ministry
Today, under the leadership of Rev. William Smith, the church continues to thrive as a vibrant multicultural worship community. Its services reflect the diverse backgrounds and needs of its members, while its active involvement in local outreach initiatives and commitment to meaningful worship traditions continue to shape its mission and impact.
